My name is Codey Richards and I am a multimedia graphic designer and illustrator based in Birmingham, Alabama. I graduated from the University of Alabama in 2009 with a BFA in Graphic Design and Printmaking. My personal work is highly motivated from my time as a musician and the study of traditional fine art methods mixed with contemporary applications. In my commercial work I put emphasis on creating the elements I use in graphic design and not relying on stock footage. I think that the human element is important to add character and personality to design.
I am a self-taught sign painter, illustrator, and currently learning the ropes as an animator. I spent 4 years after graduating college working in print shops to learn the industry from front to back. I wanted to understand the process of pre-production to post production and educate myself on what makes the process seamless. I have ran digital presses, manual silk screen presses, worked in bindery, and prepared plates for offset printing. The time I spent working in print shops has been invaluable to my relationship with printers when working on print related jobs.
My work has been featured in magazines, on apparel, on the walls of local restaurants, and even in a movie produced by A24. Some selected clients are A24, Alan Jackson, Amanda Shires, AG Events, Birmingham Zoo, The Daniels, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Razorcake Magazine, Sidewalk Film Festival, The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB), and Wholefoods Market.
